UPDATE INORMATION

22 October 2021

 

The committee has finally managed to put together a program of meetings using alternate venues.

 

 

Solway Quilters will begin regular meetings again from October 1st and fees of £40 will become due from then, as we will once again start incurring expensesIf you are not able to join this meeting please get in touch to make alternative arrangements to pay.

 

Our first meeting on Friday 1/10/21 at the Baptist Church, Gilbrae Road, Dumfries DG1 4EJ in the Sports Hall 11.30-1600. There is plenty of parking and the use of their cafe is available. We propose to follow on from our last Zoom meeting with a demonstration / class by Elma Graham of Dresden Plate with difference.

You will need to bring your sewing machine and usual sewing kit, as well as a charm pack 5" x 5' pre cut squares or equivalent selection of fabrics and background approx 0.5 meter if you wished to take part in the class. 

 

Modern Dresden Workshop - based on a 20 segment

fabric requirements please cut to size before workshop.

  • 20 coloured fabric squares 5"x5" (all different for scrubby look, or four each of five different fabrics for more co-ordinated look)
  • 40 squares background fabric 5"x5"
  • a fat quarter of the same background fabric
  • cutting board, ruler and rotary cutter ( a rotating cutting board if you have one)
  • 18* (degree) wedge ruler if you have one ( we will share wedge rulers with cleaning and sanitising adhered to)
  • other size of rulers can be used - will need to check if cut fabric pieces are suitable in size and number for a different ruler. Sewing machine, neutral thread. Usual sewing kit. 

 

Please bring any Dresden Plate pieces of work to show and tell. As before if you wish to work on your own project please do so.

Saturday 13/11/21 - Heathhall Community Centre (large hall) 10.00-15.00

Kitchen facilities available. Tea, coffee, milk supplied. BRING YOUR OWN LUNCH.

"Solway Scrolls" Get creative using small scraps!

BRING:

  • Sewing machine and extension lead (if you have one) both need to be PAT tested
  • sewing kit
  • 40" x 2" strip slightly heavier fabric- furnishing/linen/cotton stiffened with vilene
  • scrap fabrics / UFOs can be as small as 2" x 2"
  • Fabric clue if you have it
  • variety of threads for machining Zig-zag and decorative stitches.

Please bring your finished "House" blocks and items to make for sale at next years exhibition.

 

Normas surplus fabric etc. Will be available for anyone to choose what they can make use of. Cash donation to charity.

Exhibition talk. Bring your finished 'Row by Row' and 'Threads of '2020" pieces

 

As previously, please bring your own work along to all our meetings so that you always have something to do. Information of requirements will be given nearer the time.

 

 
    Triennial Exhibition dates 2/4 - 7/5/2022 - have now been confirmed. Exhibition lasting for 6 weeks. As the exhibition is being held over Easter it might be nice to include the Bunnie Gift Bags on our sales table.
